Muscle Imbalance

I have a pretty well built chest, and I totally believe in bodyweight exercises. However, I have some trouble. I have an imbalance in my chest, shoulder, and tricep muscles. When I perform pushups my left chest and triceps muscles do most of the work on the left side and get strained the most. On my right side my shoulder muscle does most of the work leaving my right chest and triceps muscles not as developed as my left ones. So, my left chest and left tricep are stronger than my right, and my right shoulder is stronger than my left. It is not only strength that is worrying me but also size. The stronger ones are somewhat bigger than the others. Does anybody have any suggestions of how to solve this problem?

Were you training in a sport that's mostly one- handed? Like tennis maybe? If not you might want to check with a good chiropractor. Muscle imbalence like that can be caused by a pinched nerve that might not cause any pain but can reduce nerve transmission enough to slow or stop muscle growth in certain areas.

No I didn't play any one-handed sports, and I can't do one-armed "anything" yet. I can do 64 pushups. It is towards the end when this happens. It also happens in dips. Anybody else have any suggestions? Thank you for the replies crazydan and cheesedog, I appreciate it.

Side to side pushups.
Take a look through the levels. There are many side to side exercises. Do more toward you weaker side, and less toward the stronger side.
I mean the numbers of reps.

You can also look into getting some dumbbells and doing unilateral work with weights. Yeah, it ain't BW, but it's all exercise.

Is it possible that one of your arms is longer than the other?
