yeah i have a tendency to stop working out for a month at a time then once i start working out again i'll have gained 2-3 pounds and it'll take me a little over a month to lose it. but in that month i see a lot of toning and some loss of that damn stomach puch.

Jo, Did I read that you can't do a pushup?? What are you doing for push exrecises? KB presses maybe?
Um we need to get make sure you are getting a push exercise in there. Don't want you being imbalanced!! Let me know - we can come up with a plan.

yes yes sadly I can't do pushups! for pushes i'm doing KB pushes - 1 arm at a time with 12kg weights. I'm also doing shoulder presses with a barbell ... can do about 22 kg on that but that's really at my max. (does that count?) and do purpees count? suppose not. I saw on your log yesterday that you break it down into days and do a day of pushes.

aargh - just feel like there's so much i can't do and quite honest feel like i'm floundering a lot of the time. i have all these plans for wos and then don't end up doing it all. about the only things i manage to stick to are weights monday and tuesday, abs about 3 times a week, kb once or twice a week and the pull up things throughout the day. (negatives are frikking hard btw!)

but then when it comes to doing practical things and i'm say hauling 25 kg bags of compost on my shoulders or climbing a ladder with a 40 kg kid wrapped around my back cos the other moms would rather have tea or i'm chasing the dogs in the veld i think - wow, it feels good to be able to do stuff. you know, just "stuff" that requires strength and fitness. and then i feel like i've made progress since last year.

mentally hit a bit of a low since being ill last week. feel like i've let myself down in some way. does that make sense?

Yea I was in a mental low a couple weeks ago. Just keep plugging along - you will shake it.
Um no biggie on the pushes. Here is what I think-----

start out doing girl pushups (from knees). get up to 3 sets of 12 or something like that....(if these are to much we can get something else for you to do)
then you can start doing them the normal way.... and you can work on them just like you are the pullups.

The best thing you can do for your funk (at least what I have found ), keep trying to do your workouts, even if you dont want, even if they are only 10 minutes, even if you quit 1/2 way thru. The reason being at least for me, is cause I know that I am bound to have a good workout in there somewhere and it will def. make me feel better.
Also set small goals for yourself, something that you can do but it is hard at times to stay consistent with or whatever (challenge yourself), it can be a food goal, drink goal, personal/family goal, fitness goal whatever you get the idea. Once you get the small goal figured out and have met it for a bit then it will help you feel better.
Have you ever checked out Erics workout log?? I like his log cause he is the perfect example of having goals, big and small. He may not always get them accomplished, but he keeps trying and is always evaluating himself and letting us too .

Wow okay rambled on here a bit, sorry. Hope it made some sense!!

N8tive always has some good sense ideas and positive thoughts.
She's one to listen to. Now, me
On the push-ups- I started out my people (that includes males) that couldn't do 1 correct push-up, by doing them off the knees (as per n8tive's advice). On the second week, I'd sy, "OK! Do ONE correct push-up and rest off your knees". It worked for them and they are progressing. Slow progression is still progression.
Now, even the ones that couldn't do one correctly, can do a whole set (10) before going down to the knees. It took several weeks of consistency, but they got there.
You can, too

you guys SO rock!

n8tive - thank you thank you thank you. right so i worked out tonight after i'd put my son to bed and read to him. i'm still tired and i had to take a break in the middle (did a really short wo) but i did it. feel good that i did it.

so my w/o was -
3 x 20 crunches
3 x 20 crunches with leg flexes
3 x 20 "superman"s
3 x 20 mountain climbers
3 x 10 pushups off knees

also did about 8 X 1 negative pullups through the day. arms not holding today - did 4 sec hold and 4 sec going down.

lol checked Eric's log. omg he published a book? that's awesome. i'm working on 2 ... he he he. gotcha re small goals. never been good at the whole goal thing.

seriously n8tive, thanks for always giving me the push i need.

itlives - yay managed 3 sets of 10 off my knees. tried 1 normal one and didn't manage. but ok so i'll give myself the rest of this week for just ones off my knees and then will add one correct one in next week and go from there.

sounds like your getting out of your funk just keep at it. after you build up some strength in your arms from the push ups on your knees you can do plyo push ups off your knees. push as hard against the floor as you can to make your self come up to a kneeling position or as close to it as you can. this will build some more strength and help you on your way to doing perfect push ups.

3 sets of 10 pushups is good! What I tell my peeps is do the first "full" pushup while you're fresh. Then, do the rest off the knees. Your plan is a good one! Keep it up.
