my coach recomeneded i do shoulder raises how many sets should i do?

Do you mean lateral raises (for the side delts) or front raises (for the front delts)? IMO don't spend much time on either, isolation exercises like those aren't much good for building strength. Do overhead presses, handstand pushups, weighted, incline, or 1-handed pushups, dips, cleans and clean and presses, snatches, clean and jerks, and push presses are all FAR superior at building your delts.

On the other hand, if you need endurance, not strength, go for sets of pushups for lots of reps.

I get pissed off with coaches who read shit on the internet and then inflict it upon their players. But I guess it's what you have to do.
