pavel's new book is out--_beyond bodybuilding_....typically i'm not interested in such things, but, as i noticed that there was a section in it on calisthenics i decided to buy it. it's available in ebook format, also available in sections which is cool, as i bought just the section that i was interested in, for $17.

my criteria in assessing an information product is simple: does this have anything NEW that i can use? i stress the "new" part because so many people are cranking out rehashed "information products" that contain information that can be easily found other where for free.

he begins with a description of ladders, in particular the way ladders were used by the russian spetsnaz. all of this info may be found here:

http://cbass.com/Pavel'sLadders.htm

next, he describes 2 different pushups programs--one of his own devising, the other the NASA pushups program. both of these are "grease the groove" type programs, involving daily pushup activity based on percentages of one's maximum number of reps. nothing too interesting here.

next come a couple of forearm exercises, a modified walking lunge exercise called the "dragon walk", some stuff on quadrapedal movements, tiger bend pushups, pike pushups, and wringing out wet towels as a upper-body exercise.

nothing really new here, folks...

Somethings arent bad but for the most part I hear you its not for me. The dragon walks are pretty cool. nothing I would expect from Pavel.

Beyond Bodybuilding is probably the best and most comprehensive book on training with and without weights out on the market. It has exercise descriptions, TONS of training schedules, periodization and that stuff, also full bodyweight workouts (with training breakdown) and some physiology for the scientifically inclined. Ross Enamait's bodyweight books are perhaps better in terms of pure bodyweight/sandbag training, and his Infinite Intensity book is great for combat conditioning/strength training, but Pavel offers the best combination of both worlds.

Why did you say you wouldn't expect dragon walks from Pavel? He has written loads of stuff on bodyweight strength training and conditioning.

Yeah, but exercise-wise it's pretty much impossible to find bodyweight exercises that aren't available on the web already.

I usually don't expect to find new exercises when I get a new book, only new training schedules/circuits, etc.

I loved the periodiazation part... also dragon walks are stupidiously brutal... I tried zen-meditating while in the down part of dragon walk... very hard

Anyone care to describe what Dragon Walking is or how it`s done?

The easiest way I think to describe it is its is like a lunge but the front foot sidesteps over crossing your other leg. get use to the distance with your legs before jumping right into it. If this isnt enough info just let me know I know its not to detailed.

I am a Pavel fan as well. I got 2 of his books, Naked Warrior and Power to the People. I know some diff crawls; bear, gator, crab etc. never heard of dragon though. Im still kinda confused at the description after u mentioned the lunge part. I'll try and google it but if anyone has a pic of it that would be great.

*edit* I think I found a video of it. It does look like the description you made. Dude does it so fast took a sec to really see the tiny extra steps.

Does any one of you have the link to download the ebooks of Pavel? That would be helpful.
