I just found this page today while browsing bodyweight exercise videos at dailymotion.com I'm age 41, height 6'2", weight 250. After several years of my doc threatening to put me on cholesterol lowering meds, I decided to cut back on the red meat and start exercising. I joined a kickboxing gym, bought a jump rope, gloves, and shin guards and found it to be a great workout and hope to find routines here to go along with the kickboxing. Goals are to average between 220-230 lbs, flatten my stomach, and overall body tone along with lowering cholesterol. Thanks in advance for any and all answers, suggestions and/or comments. Not sure if this is the correct place for a 1st question, but how should I go about building/preparing my shins for skipping rope. I have terrible pain after a few days of only two one-minute warm-up rounds of skipping rope.

try to eat a diet high in fiber.
I think eating 3 oatmeals a day will help a lot

also you must replace the meat with something , dairy is good.

Welcome to the forum.

Red meat isn't necesarily the problem, as many people have cholesterol problems related to simple carb over-consumption as do from too much fat. If you stick to LEAN meats, eat wild salmon (for the fish oil, or just take a fish oil sup), and stay away from simple carbs your cholesterol levels should improve. A garlic supplement can be a big help also.

Kickboxing is a great workout, I've been into it for several years. The problem you have with the shins is pretty common, your calf muscles get plenty of work but the muscles on the front of the shin, the tibialis anterior, doesn't get much work. Try standing on the edge of a step, on your heels facing forward and lower your toes as far as you can and then back up. Work up to 3 sets of 20, then start doing them one-legged.
