First post.

Can someone refer me a site or two with some tutorials on the basics of the four ranges? I heard someone say on here that you learn things that work 90% of the time, that's what I want to do. I have a few friends that want to do this also, so we can practice these things but not big on cash.

Could a moderator maybe just sticky these sites for everyone to see?

I think the ranges are hitting, grappling, defending, and takedowns (flipping?).

Sorry, don't know any tutorials, but the four ranges of weaponless combat are:
1. Kicking,
2. Striking,
3. Trapping, knee and elbow,
4. Grappling and throwing,
although this is a simplification, there is some blending of ranges, and some people break the ranges down more. ( I have seen some differentiate between long-range and straight punches and closer-range, hook or uppercutting punches)

Thanks for reply. Is defending a big part of basic training?

It'd better be! Without defense the best attacking techniques aren't much use.
