A thing I thought of (and tried), is to do punches, kicks and such in tabata style.

The idea is to work both on perfecting your form and energy use, and both to train yourself muscularily (i.e. each kick as strong as possible) and aerobically.

Assuming somebody does not know what tabata style is, it is a workout protocol which suggests one works four minutes in 20s/10s intervals.

I would like to hear what other people think of this workout, please do try.

P.s. Roundhouse kicks makes you real dizzy after 4 minutes.

A circuit I plan to do tommorow is :
4 min straight kicks.
4 min straight punches
4 min backfist
4 min knees
45 sec's between each part

Tabata intervals rock! I usually do tabatas at least twice a week, great for conditioning and fat loss.

By the way, that's a nice tabata workout you came up with. Unless you're in great shape 45 second rest between each part might not be enough. You might want to try 1 minute at first.

Dude, more rest between sets. Then again, you might be freakin diesel, I dunno. Me? I would die, I admit it. Still, that's one helluva workout. You're pretty much guaranteed to be dead by the end though.

I would make dead certain that the last couple of circuits are movements that you can do while blind from exhaustion, and can do without hurting yourself. Knees are a good choice, though I'm not sure about backfists. I say that because the previous tabata rounds are probably going to wreck your fine motor control. At that point you want simple, safe stuff that doesn't require pinpoint accuracy and has very little chance of missing and causing a hyperextension or somesuch.

Regardless, that's one heckuva solid routine. More power to ya!

THis is evil.... After the first 4 minutes i had to rest 1.30 minutes, and after the straight punches 1 minute. the backfists were easy - need to substitute. the knees are great.

I probably will exchange backfists with sidekick.

Are you doing these techniques into a heavy bag? If you are you might want to consider doing roundhouse kicks instead of sidekicks. The reason is when you are really fatigued your aim sucks, and missing the bag with a hard straight kick (front or side) could hyperextend your knee, which could really slow down your workout for a while.

If you're just kicking air never mind!

I'm kicking air, thought next week i might possibly practice with a friend, in which we will do intervals of blocking and punching.
