1 i used resistance for my punches.i would take a 20 pound dumbell swing a punch as fast as i can for 10 reps.then i take a min rest do it it all over .
2 this one i got from the bruce lee book.he used to have his arm down by his side with his hand open wide.he have someone in front of him.he would tell them where the punches going to strike at.whooom he do it so fast ,they barely see it done.i practice that also?

Ross Enemait advises throwing a small sandbag. Hold it in your hand and throw a punch, releasing it at the moment when you would impact. The problem with punching with a dumbbell or other weight is that you have to decelerate it at the end of the punch. This is training your muscles with the wrong response. You want to have maximum speed all the way through. This is why he suggests sandbags and releasing them at the end of the strike.
Actually, Crazydan, you would do well to hit Ross' site. www.rossboxing.com or something like that. Just do a Google search for Ross Enamait. He is really an awesome resource for aspiring boxers like yourself. I've got a couple of his books too, and they are fantastic. The guy knows his stuff.

Dumbbell punching sounds good, i'll try it with a 5kg dumbbell.

Dumbbell punching sounds good, i'll try it with a 5kg dumbbell. I've allways heard that dumbbell punchin' is only good for endurance, and actually decreases speed coz of your muscle memory remembering the slower movement, and the fact that you have to slow down near the end of the punch to avoid injury. I think that if you want to learn how to punch fast just punch as fast as possible while training, while if you want to punch hard just punch as hard as you can while training, just train to acheive your goals.

I use a bungee elastic!!!

Boss' idea with the bungee is a good one. You could use almost any kind of exercise band for that.
Clapping pushups are also a great way to enhance punching speed and power.

Clap pushups, really? That doesnt really make sense how would that increase punching speed?

Clap Push-ups increase speed because if the fast motion required to perform the clap. Now, once you've got that down, the double clap or even the triple clap makes your hands incredibly fast. While technique plays a huge part, incredible speed comes with it.

recruitment of fast-twitch muscle fibers.

remember, speed doesn't automatically equate with good timing...you can do drills all day and still not be an effective fighter. nothing is more important than sparring time...

Im pretty sure Ross throws a small med. ball, not a sandbag. But to increase punching speed, do 20 second punchout drills focusing on speed.

My old Karate instructor would have us snuff out candles with our punches.
This taught speed and control. You have to get enough punch speed for a suffice wind to blow out the candle and of course the control so that you don't wind up with a big waxy mess.
Its an awesome practice that stayed with me.

it's not a good move to try speed training with a heavy dumbell cuz you're likely to wrench joints and ligaments when you throw a heavy weight full speed.
if you're gonna use dunbells go with about 1.5kg (3.3lb) and throw techniques & combinations at full speed. bungee cords are also good.
australian boxer jeff fenech has a great workout for improving speed and power in punching on his dvd. it's based on 4x3 minute rounds with 30 second reps of each exercise with a minute rest. i started training it about 3 weeks before my last fight and my punching improved drasticly.

In my opinion, candle drill is a good way to enhance your punching speed.
I usually get into horse riding stance and then try to extinguish the blaze with my punches .

Oh yeah!
Horse stance punching is great.
Also with candle training you can work the...
Jab
Right cross
Back fist

I have found that my speed has improved rapidly by using 3 lb weights on each hand while hitting the speed bag. The ones they use for martial arts training. Gold's gym makes a weight that wraps around your hand with velcro straps. I do 5 3 min. rounds with a one min break in between each round. Then I do 3 3 min rds with the weights off and I can tell the difference.

i saw shaolin monks do the candle 2 but when they punched the candle would go out and when they pulled there arm back it would go on again.
but its does nt train your fists for the impact wich you want 2
so u can better use the handclapping pushup on your fists but that would be quite extreme...
its like jumping when u jump alot your explosivity will increase 2 so running and walkin will go faster

Isometric and/or rubber band/cable work.
I know s*** all about boxing, but if it's worked for Ross Enamait and Bruce Lee there must be something to it.

Faster hand speed can be accomplished through the use of cable/band work. Above all else though, you should be drilling your punches. Practice makes perfect.

explosive push-ups, punching is an explosive movement, achieved through the system of kinetic linking starting from the toes, thus the reason for rope skipping, through the calves, thighs,mid-section,chest the arms. in other words train more explosively, meaning jump squats, explosive push-ups and twisting movements for the mid-section.
Boxing might be called the sweet science but it's not rocket science!!

plyometric is for power and a bit speed.
for speed you could also include resistance, punch while holding an elastic band.
it will improve your acceleration.

Bruce Lee actually would start with something heavier, like 15 pound dumbbells, do a set with them, then do a set with lighter and lighter dumbbells until he got to empty handed. That's how he kept increasing his speed and was still used to punching with no extra weight. It was in The Art of Expressing the Human Body, I believe.

repitions will not make you more exsplosive..to be fast youmust develop fast twitch muscle fibres.
and the only way to develop fast twitch is by developing 100 brute strength..like bruce lee did. isometrics held at diffrent positions will do that..and reps with inner tubes from bikes will also help.

Plyometric pushups. In Never Gymless he goes so far as to do 3 claps before hitting the ground. imagine doing that at 300 pounds...
