Would regular/olympic dumbells do as a substitute for an ab wheel? Would they have different effects and perhaps be more beneficial? I'd like to know purely to save the expense and trouble of buying an ab wheel if they have no advantage over just rolling out/in with two dumbells. Thanks guys...

Well, being a cheap ba$tard I want to save money whenever possible. I've been using a barbell or 1 or 2 dumbells as a substitute for an ab wheel for years (the weights I recieved as Xmas presents, so no money spent there, :D did I mention I'm cheap?) and they have worked great.

hmmmm , I don't really see the use of ab wheels for all BWC trainees
but you can get in some awesome straight atm BW moves with two ab wheels \ dumbells \ low rings
so just use what you have it doesn't matter at all really
(but I think you shoudl buy the dumbells or rigns sicne they got other uses)

I'd like to get some rings, the problem is I don't see anywhere I could put them, as there's nowhere high enough to suspend them from. Right now I do hanging leg raises and such from two parallel rafters (in my garage), I assume those are the rings you're talking about? My next step is two get some pvc pipe to make some paralettes though, I'll let everyone know how it turns out!

drill two hooks or a bar between the rafters , and hee you go.
making rings is an option if you got a good hardware store near you , but the ones at ring training . com are much more comfortable ,
for thoose who can't hang rigns I reccomend building a free pullup bar you can assemble and break when you want it and just put it in your living room when you work out and then take it back.
if I had the time and the tools I'd make a REAL multitrainer (not tlike the shitty ones they sell at sports stores with a pec deck , lat puldown and leg extention machine )

IMO the dumbells should work just fine. I own the power wheel and the only thing it has over dumbells or the less expensive rollers is you can put your feet in it and do some pike movements. Those movements do not make it worth the extra money. I hope this helped with your question :D
