Hey all, my first post. So don't be too mean.
I've done tae kwon do for awhile, but this does not help you in a street fight, I want do a do a MA or fighting style which will help me fight better.
I've been looking into all different styles, but I can't find out much info about this.
Does anyone here do krav maga, its a style made by Israeli army. Im just wondering how effective this is in a real fight, and what other martial arts should I consider.

Well to start off I am from camden NJ one of the most dangerous cities in the USA. I get into alot of fights. Most are because I am getting robbed or jumped. I get into fights around 1 a week. So obviously in order to survive i needed to take up a martial art. First I started working out and running. Then I was going to join karate or tae-kwon-doe, but I saw a black belt get his ass kicked horribly by a guy smaller than him who had no martial arts training. So I started boxing. That helped me win most of my fights, but I decided to also join kickboxing and Savate. Finnaly I joined wrestling 2 get my grappling bettter. I also just started Khmer Boxing. From my experience all of them are great in street fights xcept Khmer. Khmer might be good but I am not good enough yet to use it in a street fight. Good luck.

Thanks for you input.
But, I was more after what krav maga is. I heard its a military style combat, nothing fancy design to take down the enemy quickly and effeciently as possible, just wondering if anyone can back that up.

Do not worry no one is going to laugh at you. I am a krav maga instructor and I will tell it like it is. Can krav be effective ? Sure, it really depends on you though. I avoid the debates about what works and what does not work. The question should really eveolve around what brings out the best in you?
Krav itself deals mainly with the physical aspects of street type violence. Yes I said street type because there are many kinds of violence that dictate different responses. Anyway, like most systems or arts it also depends on the instructor. So, do your research.
I would also ask why do you feel the need to take krav or anything else? What are your goals? FIgure that out and it will help you pick a system that suits you. It is all about bringing out the warrior spirit in you and krav may not do that for you. You may be able to get it else where.

my goals, hopefully to learn how to fight better, and able to protect myself if assaulted. Don't care about learning fancy tricks and kicks, thats what I do tricking for.
THanks for your input

If you want to learn a good style - find a good instructor. That's far more important than the style itself. If the instructor has a syllabis they've helped to create and can justify their decisions beyond simple traditions and give you good explanations based on research of things like anatomy and body mechanics then you've probably found a winner.
Personally i had a bad expereince with Krav due to going to a franchised KM school where the instructors where karateka's who taught the syllabis but didn't truly understand it. Thankfully I managed to find a very unique and heavily modified fighting style which suited me better and would reccomend to anyone thinking of starting a style to check out "one off" clubs that have been around for awhile that have a good rep over franchises.
