View Full Version : Do Genes determing how big you will get from BW exercises.

Dec 18, 2006, 10:27 AM
I see videos of people who do hundreds of pushups or pullups. Some times in an hour. Some look huge and some look skinny.
My conclusion; Some people will genetically get big from bodyweight, while others will not. Both will get strong though.

Any arguments, experiences, comments?

genes determine how big you can get. period. (with the amount of food you eat as the limiting factor)

they also deterimine your starting point , most of your progress infact can be measured reletivly to your starting point.

you can get the best idea about it by looking at your bone structure , how thick are your forearm bones , how big are your hands compared to your head , how broad are your shoulders , etc.

If anyone wants to look into the realities of the subject you could start with Dr Bruce Lipton Phd.

There is a new field developing; Epi-genetics. You are what you think you are. On a quatum level everything responds to your state of consciousness, you can adjust anything.
This explains the stories of women lifting cars off injured children and other miraculous events.

actually anyone 'can' lift a car

but they can't becasue they don't need to in nature and thier body knows when they do and it removes the break

it's called histerical strength

i think it is easier said than done.
Power of belief or will is the strength.
It happens to us all when we think we cant do something we try & try then we are able to achieve.
What is the effective difference from before and after the achievement?

hmm , Ive seen many "idiots" belive they can bench more then then ever could , still get stuck and fight it and still fail and be saved by a passer by.

it's a mental thing it takes a certain life or death situation and state of mind to get to
nothing of that "quantum" psuedo science

Ignorance of quantum physics will gain you nothing.
Neither will contradicting yourself to prove a worthless point.
If you have nothing reasonable to add i will go no further in this thread with you.

Back to topic; I think body weight would be more of a determining factor in how big you can get from BWT.

Actually I sort of thought about it ,
but no sharletan will tell me about it to make money.

and I never countradicted myself , I said people can lift a lot because thier muscles allow for it but thier nervous system has breaks on strength for safety (back i nthe day you rip a muscle , your likely to loose the whole limbs mobility 4 life)

and just for good ol sake of net flaming ,

I saw bone structure is more determinal

Those are your muscle spindles and golgi tendons (depending on which movement you make)

Genetics will always be a limiting factor, depending on what somatotype you are. Mesomorphs are generally the most well off. But most peope will have a mixture of characteristics from at least 2, if not all 3 of the body types.

But hard work can pay off, but if you want to add mass you generally need more than most bodyweight exercises will allow for hypertrophy to take place.

Added to that, most bodyweight exercises (and the reps advised) are based more on Endurance and Strength/Endurance training than Hypertrophy training.
