I was doing 3x10 pushups... but then I pushed myself really hard into doing 1x20 pushups and then a set of maybe 10 afterwards... but it was really hard and I'd hit a "wall" that I just couldn't get through.

I rested a week (just going to swim class, no BWE or lifting at all) and suddenly I was able to do 2x20 pushups!

The same thing with my squats. I could do 3x20 bodyweight squats but then my ability to walk for a few days after was ruined from soreness. I rested for a week, and now I can do 5x20 bodyweight squats with almost no soreness the next day.

I took a week off from swim class and now my performance has increased almost 4-fold.

I'm gonna go for 3x20 pushups tonight, or at least doing a small set of 10 after 2x20.

What the heck is going on here? I thought after time off you were supposed to like... need to warm back up to get into the swing of things. Instead my performance doubles, and in some cases quadruples?
