Hey guys, only just found this forum, pretty damn good, wish I had found it sooner.

Im an 18 year old guy, Aussie, and proud of it!

My goals arent very far, I want to be able to do atleast 20 front grasp pullups, can do around 10 at the moment, been training on and off for a couple years now, but really need to get serious now.

I plan on joining the Military (Army) within the next few months hopefully, I live in Australia, and they are currently looking for more at the moment, with the rise in terrorism and now the dangers rising with North Korea, I need to jump at the chance for a solid employment at the moment.

I can do around 50-60 pushups, need to get better, want to be able to do about 5 one arm pushups, cant do any at the moment lol.

My core is pretty strong, Im into Kettlebell training, they work like hell, so good for explosive strength, anyone who doesnt know them or use them, look them up and get a couple, they are very good.

I need to get my running for 2.4km to under 10 minutes, I can run it in around 12 at the moment, should only take a couple months of hard training to acomplish that.

I will tyr and be a part of these forums since they are pretty good, I love bodyweight workouts, I think the ability to use ones own body very well in movements is much better than being a big slow bulked up guy that I see in the gym all the time, I asked this one bodybuilder at my gym how many pullups could he do and he said about 2 pullups and only 10 pushups.....gimme a break... How the hell would he expect to get the hell out of the way of an ambush if he was ever in the thick of it, he couldnt, simple as that, its those unexpected smaller-regular sized strong wiry guys that make warriors, now big bulky he-men.

Also, back when I was about 16 (when I began to train) I was really overweight and always tired, I was 253 lbs, and about 5'4" at the time....now that is really overweight and unhealthy.

Over time I have lost a heap, Im now 5'11" and around 175-185 lbs depending on my training and nutrition/water retention, most of it is solid mass though, not too much fat, though I have a little bit as not to lose strength too quickly, helps alot to build strength.

Woha that's some serious bashing , sure you can get like that in the gym...
but a lot of bodybuilders who do barbell rows for example can do probably over 20 pullups on thier first attempt with a weight belt...........
also not everyone is into giong to ambushes and fighting... although a lot of kids in this site thing that training is all about kicking other peoples ass or whatever... don't be that guy train for your goals and respect others goals , I am actually reding this after being aon a bodybuilding forum reading a thread about gym morons , basicly skinny guys who try to teach bigger and stronger ones how to lift think that protein is a steroid etc.. (http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do?id=1286778)

so pepole should respect otehr peoples goals and training...

anyway as a newly assigned modrator in this forum I welcome you aboard sypher..

I'd reccomend doing pullups , handstand pushups(Not a big deal to learn for you since your a small mroe effective guy right?) and dips...
and alternate wide and narrow grips (for pullups also over hand wide and narrow and underhand etc)
with frequent practice avoiding over training (too much) and effort you will gain strength-endurance all over your upper body and probably be able to do one armed pushups... (You could do decline one armed pushups to maek them easier instead of closed grip dips)

And yeah welcome aboard and I hope you will stay....

Woah...you took my post way out of context there...

I have plenty of body building friends who agree with me alot, they are way too big to be fast or have the ability to get themselves out of tight situations, since their size would inhibit them, they themselves agree with that fact.

Most combat soldiers arent big guys, they are average sized guys, but they arent bodybuilders, sure they may not be able to bench as much as bodybuilders or squat as much, but you could bet that they could pack march or carry stretchers for miles and miles, and run alot further and faster, without the need to carb/protein up or eat every 2-3 hours like BB guys.

Im not knocking bodybuilding, its an interesting sport, and I like to help out my friends who are into it with their strength training, but when it comes to soldiering, a good amount of endurance, strength and the ability to sustain that for long periods, the average size guys is more suitable.

The whole reason I was kind of pissed off with the whole bodybuilding thing for a bit there was because at the gym that my mate trains at, his uni friend who is into bodybuilding and is doing his physical trainers cert was saying things like "the way your doing things wont work, why? because i said so, and you dont have enough muscle to do that kind of work" and he even went as far as saying that kettlebell training and old school strongman training was for chumps and doesnt really work, and that Pavel Tsatsouline doesnt really know what hes talking about..

Quite ironic considering how the things comming out of his mouth made him seem totally ignorant..

gym rats are morons , I have been told that if your not doing latheral raises on a swiss ball your going to break your shoulder ,
one of the rules of how to sucesfully train nowdays is not to argue with the gym morons unless you try to make them your workout partners.
