View Full Version : Hello and Why I'm Here

I would just like to say hello and that I can't wait to get started on the different excersizes! I don't know what level I'm at right now. My excersize routines have been pretty haphazard. I'm still trying to piece together a good weekly routine (I already have a small routine worked out that includes mostly hindu pushups and hindu squats, as well as abdominal excersizes and light weight training), and I'm wondering how I'm going to fit the excersizes from the different levels into my routine; or where to find a place with the proper structures, since there's no playgrounds near me.

I would like to say that I've watched some of the videos, and I'm amazed to see people with such amazing physical abilities that have not bulked up their muscles like professional body'builders' do. A wise man once said that if you want a certain result, find the person who has reached that result and learn from what they did. The result I want is to condition my body for optimal physical performance without adding a lot of muscle mass (I do intend to add an inch to my calves and arms, but that is it) that could become cumbersome. I've seen that the people on this website have done just that, so it would be logical to learn from them and do what they do (or, at least some of what they did).

The reason I want to do this is, besides the obvious health benefits from the excersizes and the added dialy confidence, I want to be able to better defend myself. The last time I was really in a 'fight' was in highschool... that was almost 4 years ago for me. A short while ago, I was attacked in my own home by some men and my nose was broken. I was able to get away (thank the Powers that Be that the back door was open and I had a route of escape), but afterwards I took a long look at myself and realized that for all my effort in bicep curling and doing isometrics and pushups... I really have no confidence in my abilities to deliver a threatenning punch or to intimidate a would-be assailant (and in a fight intimidation is a major factor- getting a broken nose surprisingly didn't hurt as much as you'd expect, and probably wouldn't have hindered me at all, but I wasn't going to stand around to try to fight being outnumbered and outmuscled).

At 5'5" and 150 lbs, I tend to get messed with a lot by a lot of punks because they think they can just get away with it. Now, I'm no weakling; but my biceps are only about 14 inches and my abdominal 'shield' of muscles leaves a lot to ask for. I'm also short, which means that I already have an obvious disadvantage.

Basically, I'm not here to become some killer 'fighting machine', but to condition my body so that the next time someone tries to hurt me, they'll be in for a surprise.

I hope my reasons for being here don't put anyone off! I'm not a violent person, and I'm sure I won't ever need to use any abilities I gain here- but the confidence and 'safety blanket' would really put me at ease. Thanks guys!

Man dude thats one long ass post and I congratulate myself for reading all of it

First off, I would like to welcome you to forum. I myself am new but ah well I better stop using that line.

Second, I see that you've seen most forum and used your head. Try incorparating the exercises into your daily routine, bit by bit, becuase you don't want to over train yourself. You should be able to see a difference in 2 weeks? Just a guess

Third, I can see your reasons for wanting to condition yourself. I have to admit I would pick on you because that's human nature. Sorry to hear about your nose, how is it now? Training will do you good, not just the health benefits, not only for self defencish sort of thing, but also I believe it can really keep your mind preoccupied. Even after you toughen up a bit, it would be wise to pick your battles, even if you beat a guy up, unless you kill him, he'll either never touch you again or bring even a bigger group of guys to get you. Most of the time, they bring other people. I guess a nice dead arm would fix that guy up. :P

Anyway, I'll also be adding this to my daily routine. To be honest, a felt a bit of pump on my triceps after a 15 dips. My shoulder is starting to ache now.

I thought a long-ass thread needed a long-ass reply

Lol well, I'm a fast reader and a fast typer, so for me it's no problem to deal with long ass posts. :)

Basically my nose is fine. It's a little sore up near my bridge (where my septal cartiladge was broken off of the bone), but that's about it. It didn't even hurt really when it happened; it was mostly the shock of seeing 3 strange men in my house (they were skinheads; shaved heads, wife beaters, boots and braces) and then flying back with blood spewing from my face that shocked me into fleeing.

It was mostly a dull 'ache' afterwards and I had a little whiplash, and the doctor had to push my cartiladge back into place (it's imperceptibly crooked now) which really hurt, but I had both nostrils, my septum, and my bridge pierced... so that's the only point that really hurt. That's probably where most of the blood came from too...

Basically, I know who is responsible for having their friends come over to do this to me (he doesn't like me dating his ex-wife) and he was too chicken shit to even come into the house, so that says I already have some kinda intimidation factor going on, but obviously not enough.

Well thanks for the reply. I'll be asking a lot of questions in other sections, so stand by for more long ass posts. :P

Welcome to the forum , stop doing the hindu stuff it sucks big time
I fan fall on my knees and then do 1RM squats and jump rope and be safe , but doing a few hindu squats to try it out I already felt big grinding and as if nothing is in place , also they don't stimulate proportional leg development , your quads will get too big and your hams will lag.

as a guy who trains for fightign and strength to weight like I can understand another tip that I should give you is to measure timing on your exsesrises ,
for example not all pullups are created equel , a 1 secund pullup takes mroe force and power then a 5 secund pullup... for fightign and strength you need to be fast. so measure your time you don't want to do high rep exsersises all relaxed and slow like a bodybuilder since it won't be productive

Welcome aboard Gavin,

I just read everything and damn that sucks about that chicken shit guy, that's not cool at all. I've had problems with ex's of girlfriends of mine but nothing even close to your experience. :o

I'm sure you'll find a lot of help in here, I know I have.
