Hi Guys.First thing i wanna say is i love this site.Their is so much good information here and its great to find a site dedicated to bodyweight training.I am training to join the Army here in Australia,i want to join as a commando. My problem is i am far from in shape. My goals are to lose weight and improve my endurance.I found these two workouts and i was hoping to get your thoughts on them.

what kind of shape do you need to be in the army what Physical tests will you be making?

as much as the demands for missions , commando troops just plant rarer trees in australia I guess =\

heres a link to what i want to do

http://www.defencejobs.gov.au/default.asp?p=880

To get to boot camp i need to do:

Beep test to level 10
30 Push ups
60 sit ups

To commence special forces training i need to be able to do:

60 Push-ups
100 Sit-ups
10 Chin-ups

Complete a 2.4 km run in patrol order (running shoes, personal webbing and rifle) in 11 minutes 30 seconds or less.

Complete a 15 km endurance march in marching order (28 Kg including a pack, personal webbing and rifle) in less than 2 Hours and 20 minutes.

Tread water for two minutes and then swim 400 metres fully clothed (in disruptive pattern camouflage uniform) in 18 minutes or less.

Will the programs in my above post get me to these standards or is there a better program to reach these.

That SEAL workout seems great. I think I'm going to try that out for myself!

hi, im not massively clued up on all this. but it seems to me that you could make up a program from the requirements they have given you. id say
push ups in 3 sets of 20 every other day. then progress to 2 sets of 30 and then 1 set of 40 and 1 of 20 then onto 60...

for the sit ups 4 sets of 25 every other day. then 2 sets of 33 and 1set of 34. then 2 sets of 50. and then onto 1 set of 60 and one set of 40. and then one set of 80 and one of 20... and the 100..

chin ups i reckon go for it max every other day.

then do the run and the endurance once a week, gradually lowering your times.
and swimming twice a week maybe...

hope this helps. as i said i dont know as much as some of the others on here but i got an a-level in sport science.

you know that chin ups sit ups and pushups are what gives BWC a bad mojo?
if you want to excel at the army , and you got time to train for it you do dips , you do presses for your shoudlers , you do straight arm work , you do legs , you do everything , they can't test you on everythign but they are hoping your balanced up ,
then again if you want only to plass the physical tests.............

make sure you do a lot of cardio. From the requirements, it looks like their looking for strength and endurance, and muscular endurance is easier to achieve with cardiovascular endurance to back it up.

p.s the requirments for SF are easy , too bad I can never get there cause I got glasses (Ofcource I can do a leser surgery , or the army can fund it if they see me very fit for it)

IMO they should be like:
Run 2 miles under 10 minutes (considered the good half in my school when we run)
10 muscle ups : much more functional for a test then chins , if you already got the bars
and 100 pushups \ situps

if the palce got $$$ to spend they can get some stuff and order some noobs ni basic training to put together an obsticle cource with stuff like pbars , ropes , ladders monkey bars etc and measure time

Wow. If thats all you need to do for the entrance to the military I'm in. I seriously doubt that thats it.

Ps: Do they look at Weight and Height and Muscle to fat ratio in the screening process or do they jsut want what your capable of.
