View Full Version : What is scapul retraction or protraction.
I read about that and can't figure out what it is.
If anyone knows please help.
IF retraction of the scapula is pulling the shoulder blades back and closer to spine, than protraction my be opposite. I guess.

Simply put...retraction is squeezing the shoulder blades back like someone just dropped an ice-cube down the back of your shirt.
Protraction is rounding the shoulders forward like when you are cold and cross your arms in front of you. Protraction doesn't alwasy have to be a "rounding" effect. ~John
