Hey Chico,
I don't know if " strengthening" your traps will be the fastest solution.
Your body must get used to the load.
Three things you can do to relax your traps and allow for faster healing.
I assume you are refering to the upper traps.
Reach over to the left trap and massage it with your right hand and wise versa. You can stand with your back against the wall or lie down on your back and place the tennis balls right over your traps. Massage like that, by moving your body slightly in all directions.
Take a warm shower and allow the water to run on the sore spots.
Pull your arm down and look the other way, this will help you to stretch the upper traps.
In terms of strengthening. Just sit down, grap the seat of the chair, your arms must be straight and shrug up isometrically. Afterall your traps get sore from mostly isometric work.
