What made you guys chose bodyweight training over going to the gym? For me, I find using my body a lot more fun and engaging, and more of an awareness of what my limits and strengths are. Plus, its just plain awesome and different. You can do it anywhere, anytime. It also seems to train your body evenly since a lot of different muscles are often used for certain BWT movements.
*sigh*
it rocks.

Just to add:
- Does away with waiting for some dude to finish his three sets
- Fashionable gym wear not required
- Takes less time
- Needs only a bar to do pull-ups on
- Trains maximal-strength (one-arm push-ups), endurance-strength (high rep push-ups), and explosive strength (clap push-ups) all effectively.
I just prefer pushing my body through space as opposed to free-weights. It also promotes greater body-awareness.

You must have went to a really bad gym.............. you know thoose guys who don't look like they work out so they compestate for it by trying to "outsmart" you (annoying you about how bad you are working out) and instead of muscle have gym clothes on....
Anyway I train with bodyweight because it's fun and aveilible , although I do whatever is good if it's strands weights body weight or a gripper

I have not enough money for a gym :x
Bodyweigh exercises are fun, but being in a gym is also nice. Best is doing both I suppose...

All you need is a barbell and two dumbbells my friend. 95% of machines are useless.

Well due to the fact that i am a practising traceur ( i do parkour ), exceptional control of ones body is VITAL... the majority of compound bodyweight exercises have proven highly functional for this activity.
Theres a few other reasons to but they are along the lines of what others have already pasted :D

Makes to look enviroment from a new angle. Can be done almost (?) everywhere - never have a dull moment in parties any more, will you ;)? Activates imagination in different way (I do some weights and occasionally less endurance-taking martial arts exercises, too).
More, perhaps later.

I lifted weights for years, but noticed a few things:
They're expensive
They're large
They can really hurt your joints
Most of them are useless
They're not really conductive to MA training
I sold my weights save my dumbbells and a couple barbells and switched over to bodyweight. One of the better decisions of my life. It's much less of a hassle to keep track of progress with bodyweight exercises. That, and I live in a trailer with 2 other guys (I'm only 18), and there's no room for weights around here, so bodyweight exercises just make sense.

canse when you already train in a gym ( mostly for fun and meetign friends who also work out there) and you like see the floor and like OMG IMA do a PLANCHE!! and like do a planche nad have fun and like then you go to the gym and do planches and frotn elvers and all the big BBs start to get pissed and that's like fun
Also you can get very creative with BB excersises and make up anything for your goals , this site is the proof to that one with the weights you just add numbers it's not as fun
