It is a kind of shock training to produce power. It should be done at a fastpace instead of going for the high reps. Also use longer rest periods.
Think of exercises like clapping pushups, jump overs, jump of a box and explode in the air immediate when you hit the ground. etc. If you do a google search on it you will find many pages to it.

I need to add to my previous post that you should not start using plyo's if you are a beginner. Make sure you build a strong foundation first. Think of a house, you can build a huge and beautiful house full of technical stuff but if you forgot a good foundation it will collapse, no matter what materials and high tech stuff you have used.

the trick is first building a strong base. If you can do many pushups you can work towards this. Start with the pushup but pushup explosively so your hands leave the ground. (no clapping yet, just pushing yourself from the ground). When your hands touch the floor again you immediate perform the next rep. After you get customed to this you try to push off harder and try to start clapping. Also you can touch your chest with the hands. If you become really good, you can touch the chest than perform the claps before you hit the ground again. But you have to move fast. The most advanced one I have ever seen is a pushups in which the full body was of the ground (so hands and feet in the air). I think in the old magazine martiala arts training I saw this guy perform a pushup, push off and in the air touch his hands to his feet before returning to the pushup. Something I won't be able to do. Guess this guy was also a bit sorter than me (and lot stronger).
Plyometrics is a name for explosive movement.
A muscle stretches and than explosively contracts, most often causing the body to move in space. Although kicks and punches don't propel your own body, they are plyometrics in the sense that quick muscle stretch is followd by rapid contraction. For that reason some people refer to throws, punches and similar techniques as plyometrics.
Hope this explonation helps.
