View Full Version : Hanging leg lifts.
This is when you hand from the bar and bring the feet to the bar and back down. Are your triceps and lats and chest supposed to hurt after?

You *hang* from the bar.
Yes you are trying to stabilize yourself and your upper body is working.
It's normal.
If your upper body is having trouble you should pull yourself up slightly. It is easier to stabilize that way.
Actually if you can keep the hips and legs as straigh as possible and lift only by extending your shoulders- That a crazy lats work out.

Sorry,
speak English.
Ok Imagine you are standing and lifting your arms up in front of you. Straight arms. Than you lower the arms.
Now imagine that you lower the arms same way, but your arms are holding a bar that you are hanging from. I think that is what he ment.
That would certainly work lats and some chest. Triceps and abdominals would be used as stabilizers.

Thanks for that explanation. It's better than how I explained it.
Just a comment about this exercise.
Some very flexible people can cheat and use very little adominals. They are so flexible that abdominals don't have to work and they use upper legs instead. Legs are stronger so it is easier. Not a good thing is you want to work on the abs and don't know that you are cheating.
There are dozens of abdominal exercises that you can do hanging. Just use your imagination. Straight up and down, circles, side to side, figure eight. It's great though.

When doing hanging leg lifts, I start to swing back and forth a lot. Is this bad at all, and if so, is there any way I can fix this?

to fix the hanging, either do a partial pullup the whole time or touch your feet to the ground at the end of the movement
