Anyone here takes pilates? I went with my friend to a pilates class. The instructor refered midsection as the power house. I am wondering if that is the same exact thing as the core.

In Pilates the powerhouse is midsection, and hips.

Pilates use to little weight resistance to be used for martial arts.

Well that is true.
But it can add strength through proper technique and body control.

Also flexibility is important.

josef pilates was the originator of the pilates movement. he started by rehab'ing boxers and formed exercises mostly to do with body movement and control. in fact he called his set of exercises "contrology". the goal was not strength or posture but to move from the powerhouse, retraining kinesetic chains and neurological conditioning so that muscles fired in proper sequence. dancers and other movement orientated folks tapped into his work and sort of taken it over, making it more about slim long lean aesthetics.
