View Full Version : Leg toning
I don't know how many Ladies are here. Well may be some gentelmen can help me.
If you were to put together a short morning work out at around 3 exercises to tone the legs.
What would the exercises be?
Pilates Leg circles
Lunges
Flutter kicks
Research each one, if you are serious about tonning up.
It is interesting that you say 3 exercises.
How much time would you want to spend on them.
I heard a trainer once said that it's better to work out few times a day for 5 minutes, than one tme for 30 minutes, when it comes to raising metabolism.

What's with metabolism? How does that relate to toning?
As much as people make fun of "no time excuse" sometimes it's true.
10 minutes, 20 tops. I don't like to rush through my exercises.
Thanks for the repies, members.

If you are shooting for the sexy toned legs where you don't really get muscle tone, just a smooth toned leg (hope that makes sense), then the best thing is running IMHO or walking. For muscle development I would shoot for leg exercises of all kinds.

mm... built legs are so hawt... you get a nice butt without lard covering the body *hint*
...anyhow as I hinted theres only two factors you can play with , muscle size and the fat covering it(no spot reduction) you could to some degree tone the stomach by havign strong and enduring transerve abdominals and good posture(and no crunches do not train transerves) but nothign ebyond it.
another good tip is to go to the women's section in bodybuilding.com(alot of it is scam don't buy thier supplements they make you think as if it's the key to sucess) but read the training and nutrition articles. there helpfull.( I hope it's okey to link to toehr sites so much i see linking\refering is treated open mindedly on theese forums and a good thing it is)

I was told from very reliable people to avoid www.bodybuilding.com. There is a lot of BS in those articles.

I know but they doo good to teach beginners the basic stuff about whats a protein a carb , fat body composition bulking\cutting
another (much less BS place) is t-nation but not as nearly beginner friendly since they don't really try to rip you off

I like T-nation a lot. They're not horribly fond of some newbie attitudes but come in with the right attitude and we'll al get along, I'm sure.
Tone doesn't exist in the way you think it does: you want defined legs. I advise you to fix your diet and do some work in terms of weights or bodyweight or whatever.
Squats, lunges and step-ups for the win

True,
toning is a weird term.
It almost sounds like someone says "I want sexy legs", would sexy legs still be sexy if they support a truck tire above them?

Tone has to do with how much body fat you have. And high rep Richard Simmons type workouts will not get your actual muscles toned.

Why did you have to bring Simmons in here? :?

I'm casting him out before he is brough in.
If you have no or little fat on your legs, you will get more defined by exericsing your legs becuase muscles will shape your legs. If you have fat on your legs, than your whole body must be watched along with diet, detox, allergy elimination, etc.

While it's true that you should have legs as a focus on full body workouts(legs are the largest muscles in your body, and produce more growth hormone when focussed on. In a Swiss study, men who focussed on legs gained more upper body strength then those who focussed on upper body during full body workouts.),
You should go for full body workouts 3 times a week to burn the fat off your muscles to see them, focussing on major muscle groups like back, chest, shoulders, abs(do abwork as a circuit before full body workouts, focussing on the 5 parts of the abs, upper(rectus abdominus), Lower(Hip Flexors and lower abdominus), obliques(inner and outer), Tansverse Abdominus, and lower back), and legs.
If you want to learn more about full body workouts using weight, check out The Abs Diet by David Zinczenko. It'll teach you how to manipulate your basal metabolism to burn fat while sitting around just being you, as it is more of a metabolism changing lifestyle than a strict diet/exercise regime.
