View Full Version : Sprinters
If you ever seen a spring, you can't not notice the size of their legs.
I am worndering if they only run or do leg exercises as well?
Basically what I am asking is that if you run fast, for a short period of time: can you develop legs like a sprinter?
Interesting that you posted that.
I often thought about that myself.
Those guys and gals have also very developed upper body.
I would guess that they do strength training.
Sprinting will get you into shape that is for sure. But if you go for the "sprinter's look" than you should probably do strength toning exercises on the top of sprinting.
I seem sprinters train.
The run with strings literally attached to them. Someon pull them back.
This makes the strong. I think you can look like one if you did that kind of training every day.
You would proably need to run back like that too to develop overall muscles.

What about running sideway? 8)

You can't run side ways. There are other names for moving sideways.

They often run with a weighted sled to develop power.
Also they develop explosive power with heavyly weighted squats with small amounts of reps.

Also, running sprints makes the brain release more human growth hormone which stimulates muscle growth. Jogging does no such thing.

Sprinting certainly is a means of developing enormous leg muscles but it must be done in a certain way. The duration of the sprint is very important and the duration of each sprint must be sufficient to fatigue the fast twitch fibres. Sprints lasting between 15 and 25 seconds will probably result in the best hypertrophy gains and volume must be gradually increased to sustain the hypertrophy process. Hill sprints can also be mixed in for added variety.

I know that sprinting for more than 8 seconds with max speed starts to train speed endurance rather than maximum speed. I have read it from many articles across the web. But I don't know if 'pure speed' training releases as much HGH into the system as 15 to 25 sec sprints with shorter rest periods. If someone would clarify that out to me, I would be thankful.

How do sprinters train? They sprint for several different time intervals, they also practice starts with very short sprints, they do plyometrics, they squat, deadlift, and power clean. They pull weighted sleds and practice short sprints with elastic bands or small parachutes holding them back. They work on their stride length and frequency and do certain agility drills.

Weighted squats are very important for them.
I read somewhere that Ben Johnson used to squat 600 lbs. FOR REPS.
Sweet.

That is about 270 kg... Actually, I would not be suprised if he did that. Sprinters need to have a very strong lower body.
