View Full Version : Burpees speed?

Speaking of burpees,
What is the optimal speed for them?
Some guys literally do 8 in ten seconds.
Also some do them in almost slow motion.

I guess it depends on the application.
Depending on what the person is training for.
If you just want endurance exericise, than breath deep and move relatively slower.
If you want to learn how to move explosively. For example a soldier who wants to lie down and stand up fast.
Than do them as fast as possible to build up speed.

Actually I do them fast, and that's one crazy cardio right there.

I second that.

Just go at a speed that are comfortable with, and you will progress with time.

Careful,
if you do them too fast and you haven't mastered them. You may get back pain.

well at first you dont want to rush until you are comfortable with proper form then you can speed it up and that is a trully crazy cardio workout

yes!!! when you dont pay attention to how you do excercise that's how you end up with injury or pain (aside from soreness).

Burpess require a few exercises in one. Those exercises require proper form. So yes, proper form in burpee's is important.

the only "excersise" in a burpee is a pushup , other then that you jsut get in it's position and jump up I'm not sure about propper form on jumping or even pushups (assuming one can hardly manage 10-20 and is in aweful shape)
that's not an excuse to slack out.

doing not so full rom pushups if it doesn't ome out natural and having burpees with 2x speed for it IMHO is better then doing propper form it's an aerobic excersise anyway.

now suppose you do impropper form pushups come on it's only pushups it's not like you let your shoulders loose in a bench press or bending your back on one arm pushups

The whole thing is an exercise, and requires form. For starters let's start this discussion from the pushup; after doing one, I would expect a person to jump into squatting position. In that position after time and practice I can see the person having a stable position ready for the next move is jumping straight up where the person lands back into the squatting position, and then jumps into pushup position. In short this is all requires good form, IMHO.

Also, the statement about the "...only exercise is a pushup" is ridiculous. If that were true then why not just do pushups? Think about it.

I'd sacrafice form for speed, when I do burpees I work for semi-aerobic endurance nto perfect form , it will be attained with practice,

bytheway the burpee doesn't have any squat thrust like motion just a jump, if anything is a wrong form it is adding a squat motion.

I disagree. When you land I would land so low that it's past a squat position, and then shoot my legs out into pushups, same goes for the reverse.

If you look at the pictures in this forum, they squat very low. Not everyone can do that. Also not everyone can squat that low on flat feet.
You have to be very flexible to do a good squat with your burpee and still maintain speed.

Anyhow doing burpees with "perfect flawless form" but slowly doesn't serve thier own porpouse , the asme with one arm pushups , you get from elevated ones to the floor while constantly checking your form and improoving it , you don't start with a perfect form right away because you aren't ready for it yet

Are you saying that you should do bad form first, before good form?
That's a fine idea if you do't get hurt doing it wrong. Also I do see your point, if you can't do it right, than how long should you wait before you can do it period.

Don't make whay I said mean soemthign else ,
I am saying that if you can only handle 60% of perfect form and trying to keep it makes you go MUCH slower it's not worth it , just make sure you progress into fixing it slowly instead of doing the excersise clumsily and slowly "with perfect form"

Sometimes doing exercises slower, improves the form cause you see where you make mistakes.
