I registered with BWC a while ago, but never posted an introduction.

I'm 27 yo, married with two little boys and another on the way. I found traditional weight training very boring except for lifts such as: Clean, Snatch, Clean and Jerk, etc. I love playing sports and am trying to keep in shape for the next match (football, basketball, etc.) Since I am through with H.S. and college sports my activity is limited to being a weekend warrior. Going to the gym doesn't appeal to me much since I'm not able to do the exercises I would like to at a traditional gym. (The personal trainers don't like when you throw around weights at their gym. It's bad for business!) I also found out that I'd rather be able to perform multiple reps of a One-arm Pushup or a Pistol than Bench or Squat a lot of weight. Another plus of BW training is that my wife enjoys getting into it. She doesn't really like pumping heavy iron!

Right now my pushup stats suck (I can only perform between 35-40 reps in a row before fatiguing). I did just do 100 straight BW squats in a row the other day without much sweat. My pullups also suck. I can only do about 8 in a row (On a good day 10).

Some goals of mine:
- Perform multiple reps of the One-Arm Pushup
- Perform multiple reps of the Pistol
- Increase Pullups to 15-20 in a row or more.
- Increase Standard Pushups to 100 in a row.
- I would also like to be able to achieve the Dragon Flag.

All helpful advice is welcome!

welcome to the forum

for dragon flags work on slow negatives and partial reps until you can do a full version. this tutorial on body levers(which are quite similar to dragon flags) will be helpful http://gymnasticbodies.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=509&highlight=

i would drop the goal of 100 pushups straight. the physical benefits of being able to do 100 pushups doesnt justify the effort and training it takes to build up to it. its just for bragging rights more than anything. same goes for 20 pullups- consider adding weight when you can do 12-15 reps

Hey Jtra9977! Welcome. I agree with everything Cathal says.

Considering which lifts are your favourites, I would recommend you also take a look at kettlebells.

Thanks for the advice and the links. Yes, my 100 straight pushup goal is simply for bragging rights! :) I'm not going to try to work up to it though. I'm hoping that through consistent training I'll be able to knock off 100 straight some day. . . maybe not.

I appreciate the advice. I love to learn. I'll try to keep posted on my progress as well.

I have worked out with kettlebells before . . . once . . . in the store. I couldn't afford to buy them so I tried them right there. I'm sure I looked like an idiot. Trying to Clean, Snatch, and Press with a KB was a lot different than using a DB!

I would love to be able to own some in the future. I just really can't afford them right now.
