Hey there and welcome. You could certainly get very strong doing bw exercises while weighing 108 kg (around 240-250 lbs, right?)-strength has always been a problem for me as I only do bw and I weigh only 110 lbs.
Check out the 20 level challenge, look at other people's workout logs and also start your own.
Start out slow concentrating on basic exercises like pushups, pullups, situps, squats and increase rep numbers. Work in more variety gradually. Have fun and I do hope you stick around!

Welcome Chris, I'm new to this site here as well. What I've found helpful is just checking out what other members are writing in their logs, and incorporating that into my training. If I'm not familiar with a term, I'll check out the search button, if that fails, I go to youtube, to get a description. I've only recently joined, but am already looking at unloading my power rack, and a bunch of weights and replacing them with a chin/dip station.

Hiya buddy many thanks for the feed back thats quite a nice little write up! I just cant wait to get started im already planning in converting my room in order to do the most effective workout, For the short term im in the middle of dieting down to about 224IBs and therefore on a diet of loads of cottage cheese etc etc haha soo nasty you would not believe and also lots of cardio,
guys do you think from your own personal experiences that its possible to get some good results from now till January, i really want to be able to get a good routine together so that when im away whether it be USA or thailand that i can get a full work out in minimal time (1-2hrs)

Yes it is possible to get good results in around 5-6 months, in fact I'm counting on it to meet some goals by my 16th in February.
For equipment a power tower is best, they usually come with pullup bar, dip bars, knee raise, parallel pushups bars.
Also I've heard the USA is great, look at it in the products section of this site.
Once you get really strong with bw moves, get a weight vest.
Also I just made a sandbag for some extra variety, no cost and fun to use.
What do you mean by getting a 1-2 hour routine together by January?

ill have a scout through ebay in a sec for a power tower
Sorry what i meant was when im off on my travels in january ill be living out of hostels and always on the move but i was hoping to keep a good training routine going and hopefully dedicating 1-2hrs per day, the only catch is ill have no tools to use apart from my own body and with this i was hoping to learn enough from this site to be able to have enough knowledge to get a good hearty workout together to keep me lean while im away,
im sure i could of explained that alot better haha but im sure you get where im coming from

You'd have to be VERY strong to do 2 hours of calisthenics straight. You can do shorter workouts, maybe 30 min at a time. Just remember this: do the moves as fast as you can. Minimize rest. Don't focus on getting high rep numbers by doing everything slowly and methodically-a mistake I made.
Start a workout thread and post some ideas, get comments and advice. :)
-Power towers are very expensive, most around $150 to $300.
It might actually be cheaper to just get a doorway chinup bar for the pullups and knee raises, a pair of pushup bars separately and just use chairs/stools for the dips.
That way you bust around $35 instead of over $200 easy.
Also look at the articles at rosstraining.com for DIY exercise devices like sandbags, medicine balls and ab wheels. Some great workout programs there too.

Hiya buddy cheers again, after looking at those power towers i think ill stick to the one at the gym,
Ive tried the door hook on jobbies but with my weight and the quality of englands door frames it wasnt a good idea haha did give it a go and heard the door frame starting to crack so left that idea well alone:-D
i think ill have a bit more of a read and post up a routine later on tonight

I agree with demarcoa that you get a good workout done in 30-40 minutes.
Keep working on a good program until you begin your travels.
When you do leave to go travelling, you should be able to find somewhere to do chinups/pullups, dips, elevated pushups, squats/walking lunges, some ab work, and perhaps body rows. If you can do these type of exercises approx 3 times a week, it should keep you in nick until you return home and can carry on exercising in more familiar surroundings.
All the best

Hiya buddy
Yeah the 1-2hrs was a bit of random number that popped out my head, 30-40 mins sounds alot better
1 question i would like to ask if ya dont mind buddy, Ive been reading through level 1 of the 20 level challenge and im just wondering what is meant by
"Hold for as long as possible. Repeat as many times as possible"
now is it like hold it for 1 minute if ya can hold for that long then rest for 60secs then hold for another 1 minute? but yet still do 3 x 10 ?
demarcoa
Sep 02, 2008, 03:14 PM
Not really more like hold for a minute, go down, hold for around 40 seconds, go down, hold for around 15 seconds, go down.
No rest. The times will of course decrease with every rep. Keep going till you can't do another one.
Erm...warm up before you do this otherwise your muscles will get sore and cramp up.

What demarcoa said :)
I personally am not doing the 20 level challenge, just do my own thing, but the 20 level challenge is great to get ideas from to possibly incorporate into my own training now or at a later date.
BE PERSISTANT, DO SOMETHING.

hi mate. i am from shropshire.. small world.
Get some Press-up handles and check out the Ultimate Body Press. It really is a great tool for working out, and while it's not exactly cheap, you'll never need to buy a new one, which makes it fantastic for anyone really.
Always be sure to work your legs.. It'll make a difference to your whole body. Not just synergistically, but the fact that working large muscles stimulates hormone releases.. It gives you that really 'pumped' feeling.
Be sure that for every push there is a pull, and you're on your way to a great injury-free physique.
