Hi my name is Joe, I've been training hard for the past 3 years. I'm interested in extreme fitness and I'm not into the machine style gym environment. I rock climb indoors and outdoors, body weight train, kettle bell train. I've turned my garage and backyard into my playground. My neighbors think I'm crazy (flipping tractor tires). I don't fit into the mold of your typical 55 year old. I discovered this site a year ago and have gotten many useful bits of info on fitness and recovery from injuries. I have a difficult time finding training partners, so I thought its time to expand my horizons and meet new people. A few of my body weight training goals are to acheive 1 leg pistols, handstand push-ups, press to handstand, muscle ups and 1 arm pull ups. I always look forward to training and new ideas.

Joe, welcome! It's very inspiring for me to read that you're still going strong at 55, I was just today thinking that when I get into my 30s, I'm 24 now, that I still want to be pushing myself and training hard instead of defaulting into a slowing disintegrating couch potato. Also, I highly recommend starting a workout log to monitor your progess, stay accountable, and receive feedback.

Hi Joe,

Please, please start a daily workout journal. I'm 53 years old, and I think I'm currently the oldest one doing that. I would love to give that title to you :-D. Sounds like you do some really interesting things too, I would look forward to reading about them.

Hi Rick,

I'm going to check out posting training logs as I am new to this site. I'm also working on my weight I'm currently at 212 my goal is 205 by Oct 31st, then I'm going for 195 and try to maintain this weight. 3 years ago I weighed 285 and decided to change my life. I'm never going back there again. Saturday I'm going cliff climbing at Taylors Falls on the St. Croix River. My rock climbing buddy and I really kick ass climbing all day. By the end of the day I feel every muscle in my body, great body weight work out and a lot of fun and excitement. In the summer I mix my work outs to include rock climbing (outdoors & indoors), body weight training, russian kettlebell training and weight training. In the winter I switch to ice climbing, indoor gym climbing, kettlebells and weights in my garage. I try to do a couple of ice climbing adventures each winter. Last year I went to Colorado ice climbing and climbed a 570' waterfall called Gravities Rainbow (my first major ice climb), then Cody Wyoming to climb back country ice with friends. There's an ice climbing festival every year on Lake Michigan called the Michigan Ice Fest, I hope to make it this year. I train to climb and I climb to train. I'm interested in following your work outs also, I will keep in touch.

Hi Joe.

It's people like you that really inspire me. You sound so full of energy, great to see.

When a lot of people reach your age (not that I'm saying it's old, by any means), it appears they want the more sedentary lifestyle as if it is a natural progression, you know the type, play bowls and bingo.

I think it is fantastic to read the things you are doing and look forward to reading many more posts from you.

I hope you do, we have similar goals. I know it helps me to keep going, reading about what other people are doing (good things and bad things).

We have some incredible younger guys on this site (I enjoy reading their stuff, but can't relate to it all the time). And some older young guys (pushing 40), some of them are pretty incredible too. We don't have many people over 50, or girls (women), who post regularly. I wish these two groups were represented a little more.

Anyway, I hope to hear how things are going for you.

Rick

Hi Struggler,

Glad to be an inspiration to you. Went cliff climbing yesterday and made a climb effortlessly that defeated me 2 weeks ago! Staying physically fit is a personal choice all I can say is in my 50's I feel like I'm 25. I'll take that anyday. Keep working out and lead a healthy lifestyle and you'll have no regrets. Keep me posted on your goals and work-outs.

Joe
