im working on strengthening my core at the moment and i do planks ussually 2 or 3 times for 1:00 attempting to get 1:30 seconds. So my question to you is this an effective workout for strengthening my core?

planks are a good start, but try to mix it up with other exercises that will work your back as well. IMHO the core is more than abs, it is the entire torso. Heavy overhead lifts work for me and front squats also give you a workout. But my favourite is the Ab wheel as an upgrade from planks
