I have been sprinting pretty regularly..
My goal is (besides getting in all around better shape) is to equal or beat my highschool times

I'm 34 years old and I think it's totally possible.. I'm not there yet but getting better each week!

I guess it would all depend on your highschool times and your current shape.

I sprint. I love it, too. There're all sorts of benefits from it, including CV health, hGH levels, fat loss, insulin sensitivity..

Just keep it up and I'm sure you'll reach your goal!

in HS I was running the 100 at 11 and my mile at 5:15

yesterday I did the 100 in 13.5

that said..

I'm about 60 lbs heavier than I was.. but I think I can still do it!;)

yea, 11 s is not bad so i reckon youre not completely untalented;)
in case you really are 60 lbs heavier than you were back then, id personally also recommend long distance runs ( between 3-10 km, depends on your training level).
I also like hillsprints very much.
if youve got any training partner you can do some sprints starting in different positions.
eg in the push up pos. he whistles or claps his hands or whatever and you start. also gives you an advantage in terms of starting your actual sprint.

OK I'm going into my junior HS year, 2nd year on the track team. 100 time started out as around 14.5 :( last year, but I got it down to 13.1.....Want to get down below 12 this year (somewhat unrealistic) how did you train? Also does anyone know good drills for stride frequency?

Obie013

demarcoa; increase stride frequency by running down hill sprints and using an agility ladder for about 30 meters. Michael Johnson said it was the best thing he did for his stride frequency.

I did the 100 in HS. I was serious about it, my best time was a 11.5. But in stronger and more focus now and watching this Olympics has motivated me to pursue it again. I'm going try to get down to 10.8-11 seconds by next spring.

Right now I'm strength training, I will start working on my cardio in September and practice on my explosives and running technique during the winter in Indoor track to be in peak form in the Spring time.

Sprinting isn't completely about foot speed. Power is needed greatly for sprinting because without it you'll go nowhere. I have decent foot speed, I was within a second of the top sprint guy for the 150m on the team during indoor, but he was able to develop alot more explosive power during the season that made him a sprinter and me a distance runner. If you go to a track meet you always wonder how the short guys can move their legs so fast but aren't quite as fast as some of the other guys and then think about if they were just 2 inches taller with that footspeed and how fast they would be.

well.. as I did them a couple days ago, I can tell you you do need some time between sprint days.. I'm suprised how sore I am.. not just my legs either!

my legs feel like I did a CRAZY squat routine.. just sore completely and my abs are sore!

I'd say I could sprint 2-3 times per week tops

Sprinting is a big part of my workout routine, and I really look forward to my sprint workouts.

I focus on 100 meter sprints, walking back to the starting point, and immediately doing a set of burpees. I try for 5 sets of these and hope to progress to doing more. But they're very intense, and you definitely feel it the next day.

I notice my sprint workouts make a huge contribution to my overall cardiovascular fitness. Distance running has become much easier as a result. I focus less on distance running and more on sprinting because I think the benefits are greater. I do a 3 or 6 mile distance run once or twice a week just to mix things up.

Running down hill sprints? And yeah know the agility ladder is good, I do that sometimes with fold-up hurdles laid on the ground.

I do a lot of strength/power workouts for legs but worry that I focus too much on that power aspect.

I heard that lifeline TNT cables are great for sprint starts....

Don't know if you guys in the states can pick up the UK version of FHM but they have Usain Bolt's basic training in it on the current issue with i think Holly Valance on the cover so ya can identify it.

Well what do ya know they put it up on their website.

I love sprinting. But cant figure out if itīs wise to both do sprints and strengh workout on the same day?

Anybody does both? And do you sprint first or workout?

Thanks.

Sprinting and working out on the same day is no problem.

I suggest you do your strength training first and the sprinting on the end.

Despite the fact I love sprinting, I find out lately that it really really inteferes with my recovery from lower-body workouts. As such, I keep sprinting right now only when I'm on a cutting diet, and have reached a plataeu.

This may not be relevant to some people, since I know that when I just began, I could easily train max strength 6 days a week, sprint, play basketball, and do martial arts. Yet for some time now, I realised this is not ideal for me, and that I regress. This may be because of too much workout stress, but I think it comes from university stressing the fuck out of me (55 hours a week)
